Each story I read from Susan May Warren has me convinced I've read her finest work and then I'm unbelievably stunned by how perfect the next story is. From the insightful opening letter written as positive affirmation from Owen's mom to the opening lines of chapter one, "No one dies tonight , not if she could help it", I knew I was in for a thrilling ride full of excitement and passion from the best of the best, Susan May Warren. I was right. You're the One That I Want is an amazing conclusion to the Christiansen family saga, one of the best collections of stories I've ever had the pleasure to read.

The chemistry between Owen Christiansen and Scotty McFlynn was both tangible and palpable. Their relationship was both authentic and romantic, it may be and probably is, the best in this series. That's saying a lot and readers who are following the Christiansen family should be on the edge of their seats, I was. Their witty dialogue was just the beginning of a heart wrenching journey through danger, insecurities and self-doubt, but a wonderful journey nonetheless to what God had planned for them after all the detours, too.

There are scores of one-liners I'd love to quote but I won't spoil the uncovering of all these treasures for other readers. I will say my copy of this book is highlighted throughout. Susan May Warren did an outstanding job of bringing all the stories of the six Christiansen children to a sigh-worthy conclusion. No small feat and one I wasn't sure could be done, but I'm impressed with how well she accomplished it.

You're the One That I Want is a fabulous love story with a spiritual message, that message is undoubtedly found in one passage as quoted by pastor Dan,
"... I warn you, once you embrace Christ, you too become a rule breaker. Because a life committed to God requires us to live uncomfortably . Inconveniently. Accountably. Bravely. Transparently. Vulnerably. It requires us to love without rules. Welcome to grace".

That says it all, the story of grace lived out in the Christiansen family and the story each believer is called to write in their in their own life.

To say I have been anticipating this book would be to put it mildly. There is a fear with that, that maybe you have built something up so much in your mind, that reality can not compete. I had that moment with each book in the series, and in each and every one, Susan May Warren did not fail to write not only a well written, captivating story, but one with heart and depth that reaches you and holds on. One of the things I love about her books, is her ability to write real people, not perfect people but people with faults and the way she brings deep truths to light and teaches us lessons on faith, grace, hope, love and so much more; all the while doing it without being preachy. Her messages of faith are so woven into the fabric of the story, that it just feels natural and flows. Her characters could be us or someone we know, and every battle and victory feel real.

The other thing about her writing is... well, let's just be honest the romance is so well done! She comes at it from several different angles but no matter what it speaks to you and you eat it up! This series has been phenomenal! Seriously, I have loved it and I hate that it is now at an end. Come on, I really want more! I have loved this family, their highs and lows, the love, the grace, the romance and so much more! I love the way they love big and large, the interactions, on and on I could go.

You're the One That I Want, is Owen's story but really it is so much more. It is the wrap up story for the whole gang; especially dealing with Owen, Casper and Raina. Which is something I have been waiting to see play out for a while now. Seeing them deal with the consequences of sin, the prodigal coming home, relationships and fractures in them, on and on... this story is powerfully packed. I jumped in and could have read straight through, if life would have allowed it. I had to settle for reading it in snatches and longing to jump back in it when I was away. I did not want this one to end; maybe because it is the end of the series too. I just wanted the story to keep going. I wanted a little more time with Owen and Scotty. Warren wraps things up, don't get me wrong; I was joyful and content at the final page.

All this to say, read this book! If you haven't read the series, read it! I would read them in order.

You know a book is going to be good when the opening has you tearing up. This sixth book in the Christiansen family is the perfect dessert at the end of a five star meal - a magnificent finish to a meal you thought couldn't be improved upon.

It should have been a challenge to rehabilitate Owen Christiansen. This black sheep of the Christiansen family was definitely unlikable for much of the series and it was really only the love of his family that gave a glimpse of anything redeemable in this wild, angry young man in earlier books. But Susan May Warren knows her stuff and it didn't take long for Owen to display his maturity and growth and, in the process, become another one of her quintessential swoon-worthy heroes.

Scotty McFlynn was the perfect foil for him. A tough young woman who still gave the impression of being a little lost in the world, a hard shell covering a soft center, longing for the kind of love and family she was sure was out of her reach. How could you not cheer for her?

Blend these wonderful characters together with intense family drama threatening to rend relationships, a mystery that could fracture several lives if it isn't put to rest and a couple of deeply moving spiritual journeys and you have what is sure to be one of the best books of the year.

There was only thing about this book I didn't like - it's the end of the Christiansen family series. But, I'm sure I'll revisit them often.
