The book can be divided into two halves. In the first half, Aram journeys to see Lord Kelven to obtain the Sword of Heaven. He endures much personal agony and pushes himself to the limit to make to journey to Lord Kelven, to obtain the sword, and then make his decent back down.
The second half describes Aram's relationship with his beloved, his efforts to build an army, inital successes and eventual surprise from his enemy, Manon.
I have ordered book three to see how Aram survives this latest hardship. If you haven't read book 1, please do so. You will find yourself surprisingly drawn into this world.

good book
This series kept me hanging on the edge, I could not wait to get my hands on the next book.
The intrigue, convoluted path and turns the author takes keeps you guessing and the detail in
the book was amazing.
Very good read although there is so much detail about the landscapes he travels that It was difficult to keep up with where he was. But enjoyed the journeys he took.
Never before a big fan of fictional science-fantasy, I have been pleasantly surprised how much I love the Kelven's Riddle series. I am drawn to the characters of human and animal with anticipation of what adventure they will become a part of next! I like the respect given Aram's trusted friends the horses, especially. The long-ending suspense builds and made me very anxious for Book III. The wedding was done so very well.
Well paced, we see the development of several characters through Aram's eyes. We see the growing union of the free peoples. But more than anything, we see Aram mature into the leader he will have to be to ultimately defeat Manon, even if it costs him his own life.
Daniel Hylton has followed up his wonderful first book in the Kelven's Riddle series with a true gem. In the Walking Flame we continue to follow Aram as he develops from an escaped slave to a leader and man of destiny. Hylton's characters are unique and believable, and you can't help but come to care about them as the story progresses. His storytelling craft is exceptional, and makes Aram's world come alive. The ending is an explosive cliffhanger; luckily, you can immediately pick up Book Three and find out what happens next! Highly recommended for epic fantasy fans.
I really like this series! Couldn't wait to read # 2. Story draws you in and keeps you because of the characters. Loved the relationship between the people and the animals! Like I said in #1, a little too much describing of the land for me, but this is a great series!
