This book made me feel ten again, reading a book under the covers of my bed with a flashlight, continuing to read well past bedtime because I just *had* to find out how the heroine was going to solve her problems. In every good story, there is at least one challenge the protagonist must hurdle. The story in Bleaker is no exception, and I loved the emerging tale of how Temperance Fabel handles each challenge that is thrown her way.What I loved most is that a book for middle-grade readers could actually help this middle-aged woman with understanding some problems of her own. This is the beauty of a good book: it transcends age limits and is helpful to the reader in understanding more about life.
I know I would have loved this book when I was 9-13 years old. I hope that younger readers will give this one a try. The book is appropriate yet dark fun for this age group, unlike some other paranormal tales where there is just too much stuff happening that is not what I would want my 9-13 year-old to be reading. This book is NOT boring and definitely has an "edge" to it, though, just one I think is suitable for those 13 and under. Do you like the TV shows "Grim" or "Once Upon a Time"? Then you will LOVE this book.

I haven't finished it yet, but so far it is really good! I am definitely glad I got this book! )
What an imagination. Had me guessing, and the maturity of the young
girl was outstanding. Plot was good as was the use of the english
language. Am waiting for more, more, more.
Amazing, that rare breed of YA fiction that appeals greatly to an adult base as well. A bleak little fairy tale that reminds you that fairytales are real, and heroes are made. Loved it. If you know a middle schooler, or heck, a adult that needs to be reminded of that- get this. Now.
I don't want to spoil anything, but the ONLY reason this wasn't a five star story was that I didn't like the way my favorite character ended up. That should tell you how involved I got with this story. ;)
